1) What is report and support?

Report and Support is a safe, confidential platform for our students to access support and share concerns. We respond to reports of harassment, harmful behaviour, and mental health concerns with respect and care to create a safe community for everyone. All reports are handled by trauma-informed specialist practitioners. Tell us about something related to yourself or a student you are worried about.

2) Can I report something that happened off campus?

Yes, you can report something about a student at Cardiff university, even if it happened off campus. Report and Support is available to all staff, students, visitors and external services or persons, to share concerns about Cardiff University students who are currently experiencing significant mental health concerns, or have experienced any form of violence and abuse, at any time in their life. We understand these situations could happen to students on or beyond the university campus.

If you, or someone else is at risk of immediate harm, or needs urgent medical assistance, please call the emergency services on 999.

3) Is a report and support report the same as a complaints process?

No, formal complaints procedures are managed either by the school, and / or the Student Cases Team, depending on the severity and risk relating to the complaint.

Report and support is a confidential online platform designed to help inform you of your options and guide you through these. There are two options for confidential disclosure on Report and Support. Should you wish to put in a formal complaint, please see more information here

4) What happens with anonymous reports?

Anonymous reports cannot lead to any action being taken especially if the name of whom you are reporting is not made available to us. We do, however, ensure that any information provided within the anonymous reports is collected for data purposes.

When looking at the data, whilst keeping everything confidential, we will attempt to seek out any recurring patterns and discuss any actions that can be taken to improve student safety and experience.

5) How secure is my information?

Data held on Report + Support is GDPR compliant and further information about how data is collected and stored is outlined in the Privacy policy. The system has been security tested by both the developer, Culture Shift, and by the University.

6. What if I submit a report and it isn’t believed?

At Cardiff university, staff dealing with disclosures, such as our Student Support Intervention team, have had experience and training in how to respond to disclosures. They provide a safe space free of judgment through the support process, regardless of the next steps a student wishes to take, including whether or not they would like to go through the complaints process
